Climbing Activities

Whats Involved?
A session can last between 1 - 2 hours and includes all necessary equipment and tuition by qualified Instructors.  We can take up to 36 participants in the centre at a time and can be tailored for any age group and your learning needs.  Participants learn:
• How to use and wear safety equipment
• How to climb in a safe and controlled manner
• Bouldering technique and climbing movements
• Belay and lowering skills in a team
• Climbing up to 36 different lines on our 15m high walls, with over 120 routes to choose from.
• A variety of climbing games that teaches problem solving, multi skills, balance and co-ordination

Rock Starz, NICAS and GCSE Programmes

Since 2013, we have introduced our own certification scheme for ages 4 - 7, called Rock Starz.  We offer this to schools and community groups as a fantastic way to chart progress and award achievements whilst climbing and is a perfect scheme to run in a regular after school club.  The 1 star certificate is achievable in 1 or 2 sessions, with the scheme running up to 4 stars.
This session teaches younger children the responsibilities of climbing safety without giving full independance to them just yet. In addition it rewards:
• Teamwork and communication
• Balance and co-ordination
• Fine motor skills and concentration
• Commitment and achievement
We are also extremely proud to run the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) and award up to Level 4.  NICAS has recently been recognised by Edexcel as the framework of their GCSE PE syllabus and is a fantastic way to recognise progress and reward achievement.  


NICAS is available to children between ages 8 - 16 and gives a fantastic framework to log progress through the sylabus and reward achievement milestones needed for climbing responsibly and safely.  We recommend a minimum of 6 sessions to achieve Level 1 which includes:
• Understanding safety in climbing and bouldering
• Achieving basic climbing skills such as knot tying and communication
• Achieving a number of safe climbs and belay independently with a climbing partner 

NICAS Level 2 and 3 offer further depth and progression for climbers and focus more on climbing technique and knowledge as the scheme progresses.  These can be realistically achieved within a full term of regular attendance and our regular clubs outside term time offer a superb opportunity to enhance their learning beyond school.

Outdoor Activities

Tree Climb and Abseil

Bush Craft

Far Peak is the perfect venue to offer a fantastic experience in the great outdoors.  We can provide short taster activities, through to a full survival adventure, all working closely with the natural surroundings and making sure all participants really get stuck in.  You can even camp out under the stars in your own ‘bivvy’ (with the knowledge the camp ground 
facilities are only a short hop away!)

Archery

We have a fully functioning Archery Range and qualified instructors to teach you the basics of how to shoot safely and 
accurately Our equipment can cater for children as young as 6 year old and also for adults as well.

• Team and individual challenges

We have a fantastic set up for groups and schools and welcome all DofE expeditions to stay and use our facilities.  Far Peak is very fortunate to have 25 acres fields and woodland so we can cater for over 100 pitches across the site all year round.

The site is within trekking distance of other well known stopping points and is also within safe distance of extensive walking and cycling networks that stretch across the Cotswolds. 

Pitches start at £6 per person and we provide special rates for larger groups.
