ASCENDERS ASSEMBLE....... If you are serious about climbing and want to reach new heights, why not join our fantastic club. The Ascenders are taught using the fantastic NICAS training programme and we teach levels 1-4 from the centre.
What is NICAS?
The National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) is a UK wide scheme designed to promote climbing development and accredit individual achievement on artificial climbing structures. It can be used as a starting point for people wishing to take up climbing and mountaineering. It is open to all candidates aged 7 and upwards. Simple, you can book on to any 'Ascenders Assemble' course to begin your training. This is a 2 part intensive course to get participants up to speed with Level 1 of the NICAS scheme before joining in the main club. The course runs on consecutive days (normally at the same time) and all kit and logbooks are included.
Parents and Guardians: You must fully understand the responsibilities of peer climbing and belaying and are willing to accept the risks on behalf of the participant - we are more than happy to chat through all of these with you before commencing. Joining the NICAS scheme is optional, but highly recommended as a framework to chart progression and logbooks can be purchased from reception.
Our club sessions run every weekday (and throughout the holidays) and run for approx. 90 minutes each. All safety equipment is provided and rock shoes can be hired from reception if required (recommended for Level 2 and above). We do encourage participants to purchase their own PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for Level 3 and beyond.
NICAS Level 2 sessions run Monday and Wednesday 5.30pm
NICAS Level 3 session run Tuesdays and Thursdays 5.30pm (Level 3+ also runs Thursdays 5.30pm as part of same session)
For those working on the latter part of NICAS level 4 and Level 5, our new session is for those really pushing their climbing technique and ability. NICAS Level 4 is all about lead climbing and participants can be introduced to the techniques and risks that are involved - but they MUST complete a learn2lead course at the centre before we allow them to continue lead climbing on their own.
Xtreme Sessions (NICAS Level 3+ and 4) run Friday 5.30pm
Due to popularity for our Sunday morning session, we are making the Ascenders Club open to all candidates to attend between 9.30am and 1.30pm. The session will be supervised by our team and everyone can climb/boulder as much or as little as they want during the morning, practicing techniques and logging climbs in their logbooks. Please note that children will be restricted to climbing within their ability and age for obvious safety reasons and our coaches will inform each member of what these parameters are at the time.
If you require some additional coaching, we run seperate hour long sessions throughout the morning for those needing assessment and logbooks completed. This can be booked through the calendar as normal.

* the membership lasts 6 months OR to whenever the last session is redeemed.

You will need to select the total number of places you wish to reserve as each booking can only be made with one email address. Payment for sessions are collected on arrival unless prompted otherwise. All sessions are on the calendar or listed individually below.
Activities for children begin with our Kids Sessions and Mini Rockers sessions, as a great way to encourage their love for the sport. These fun and exciting sessions can be enjoyed by complete beginners, or those who just want a taster of what climbing is all about.

This session is a very fun and active, built around play and games (which happen to involve some climbing too!)
Our Instructors help and encourage the children to climb, understand the environment and what they can achieve.
A natural progression from our Mini Rockers sessions, for those who have really got the climbing bug and want to learn more technique and shoot up the main walls and bouldering areas as soon as they arrive! .
Choose an action packed taster session for kids who want to come and have fun, try climbing for the first time, or challenge themselves to conquer our main climbing and bouldering walls.

Our 15m tree climb is challenging, exciting and will definitely get the pulse racing.
A great fun session abseiling from the top of our 12.5m platform. Climb up, enjoy the view, then abseil down under your own steam.
